Q. Please tell me more about this event.
A. We invite you to walk part of Hamlin Township Park's trails that we have lit up with hundreds of carved pumpkins.
Cider, hot cocoa, donuts, and other baked goods will be available at the pavilion for a nominal fee. This is a fundraiser for 7th and 8th grade trips for students.
Q. Who can attend?
A. The whole community is encouraged to attend!
Q. I would like to bring my child. Is this going to be scary?
A. This will not be a scary event. We encourage younger visitors to come early though as the trail will be dark and lit only by pumpkins.
Q. Is the trail suitable for strollers or wheelchairs?
A. Unfortunately, the trail is not suitable for strollers, wagons, or wheelchairs.
Q. What type of trail is it?
A. The walk takes place in the front loop of the Hamlin Township Park hiking trails. The trail is dirt and grass. There are turns and some hills. The ground is uneven with roots and some rocks.
Q. What should I wear for the walk?
A. Costumes are welcome, but not necessary. No clown or scary costumes, please! We would like to keep this event suitable for all ages.
If it is a cool night, don't forget a jacket!
Q. What type of shoes should I wear?
A. Please remember this is an uneven dirt / grass path. It would be best to wear tennis shoes or hiking shoes.
Rubber boots might be a good idea if it rains a day or two before the walk.
Q. How long is the trail?
A. We estimate the trail to be approximately 1/4 mile long. For those of you who use a step tracker, it is 655 - 815 steps depending on your stride length.
Q. How long will it take to walk the trail?
A. It takes about 10 minutes to walk the trail at a slow pace. If you stop to look at any of the amazing carved pumpkins, it may take you a little longer.
Q. Where did all of the pumpkins come from?
A. Students and families at Island City Academy carved many of them. Others came from local businesses and community members.
Q. Can I display a pumpkin?
A. Sure, we would love to display your pumpkin! Contact us for more details.
Q. This is such a cool idea! How can I help?
A. There are a number of ways you can participate. For ideas on how to help, please see our support page.
Q. You mentioned donations. What kinds of donations do you need?
A. We could use financial donations and lots & lots of pumpkins. Please use the contact form if you can contribute.
Q. You are requesting a monetary donation to walk the pumpkin walk. What does the money goes towards?
A. The donation at the head of the trail goes towards supplies to make the walk possible. Any additional proceeds will benefit the students at Island City Academy.
Q. What is the suggested donation?
A. The suggested donation is $5 per family.
Q. Can I bring my dog on the walk?
A. Service dogs are welcome. We request that you please leave all other dogs at home for this event!
Q. What if it rains during the time of the walk?
A. Check our website before coming out. The answer to this question will depend on the severity of the weather.
Q. How many years have you been doing the Island City Pumpkin Walk?
A. The Pumpkin Walk has been an annual event 2016-2020(virtual decorating contest) and was paused during COVID as it was challenging to host an event like this for a couple of years. So many families have asked when it is coming back that the ICA PTO is relaunching this event in October of 2024!
